Gary Sheffield
Gary Sheffield carved out one of the most complete and intimidating careers in modern baseball, blending rare plate discipline with ferocious bat speed and elite production across 22 seasons. A three-time All-Star and Silver Slugger with the Marlins, he powered 509 home runs—122 of them in teal—while walking more than he struck out over more than 7,500 plate appearances, a distinction shared by barely 1% of players since 1900. Sheffield delivered on the biggest stages, homering in all three rounds of the 1997 postseason and driving in five runs in Game 3 of the World Series en route to Miami’s first championship. With a 140 OPS+ and 60.5 bWAR, he sits statistically alongside several inner-circle greats, and his iconic, coiled stance produced a swing so explosive that writers and managers alike described him as one of the most fearsome hitters ever to step in the box.

Walker Monfort
Walker Monfort is in his 11th season as part of the Rockies’ executive leadership team and 16th year working full-time for the organization, now serving as Executive Vice President overseeing both baseball and business operations while driving the club’s strategic growth and service-focused culture. After joining the front office full-time in 2009 following several summers working across various departments, he spent years in baseball operations with an emphasis on Minor League development before transitioning into corporate partnerships, eventually rising to vice president and then being named executive vice president in 2025. A Colorado State University graduate and Eaton High School alum, Monfort is also an active community supporter through his work with ACE Scholarships, and he lives in Denver with his wife, Lauren, and their two children.

Mike Anderson
UNC Baseball Head Coach
In June 2022, Northern Colorado alumnus and former Nebraska Men's College World Series skipper Mike Anderson was appointed as the 10th head coach in UNC Baseball history. Returning to the Blue and Gold, Anderson, who played for the Bears from 1983 to 1986 under legendary head coach Tom Petroff, was drafted in the eighth round of the 1986 MLB Draft by the California Angels. With over 30 years of coaching experience and a keen eye for talent, Anderson has made a significant impact in his tenure. Notably, he announced the signing of five promising student-athletes to the 2025 class, bolstering the program's future prospects. His leadership continues to drive the Bears toward a bright and competitive future.

Mission Statement
Friends of Baseball is a non-profit organization dedicated to contributing opportunities for participation in the game of baseball…within the City of Greeley & Surrounding Area. Funds are raised from the annual “Breakfast of Champions” event. Those funds are to update and enhance existing baseball programs, from youth all the way to college. We distribute funds to make capital improvements, provide on-going operational support, and to help build additional baseball facilities if warranted.
Friends of Baseball was founded in 1987 by a small group of men that loved the game of baseball and now is over 25 committee members strong, along with several sponsors in the surrounding area. If you would like to become a committee member or sponsor,
